Earth Day Commemoration, Ministry of Religious Affairs to Plant One Million Trees

The Ministry of Religious Affairs  has prepared a special programme to celebrate Earth Day.

Earth Day has been celebrated every 22 April since it was initiated by Gaylord Nelson, a junior senator from Wisconsin, in 1970.

Gaylond's concern began when he saw a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in January 1969.

This made him very concerned about the condition of the environment. Earth Day is a momentum that humans must always protect the earth so that it can be enjoyed by future generations.

‘On 22 April 2025, in commemoration of Earth Day, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will plant one million trees throughout Indonesia,’ said Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Kamaruddin Amin when giving a speech at the Ministry's Halal Bihalal in Jakarta, Wednesday (9/4/2025).

‘This is a translation of one of the Ministry's priority programmes, Ecotheology. Hopefully it will become a sustainable programme,’ he hoped.

In early 2025, the Ministry of Religious Affairs released eight priority programmes called Asta Protas. One of these programmes is Ecotheology.

Ecotheology can be understood as a concept that discusses the inter-relationship between the theological-philosophical views contained in religious teachings and nature, especially the environment.

‘The Ministry of Religious Affairs is ready to carry out the Ministry's priority programmes. After fasting, we will focus and work hard, unite our steps to carry out the mandate,’ he concluded.
